Prasiolite or vermarine is a green-colored form of quartz, usually produced by artificially heat-treating amethyst. Since 1950, almost all has come from one small mine in Brazil.

Prasiolite (or praziolite) is a light to medium green variety of quartz. It gets its name from the Greek words "prason" meaning "leek" (the vegetable of this color) and "lithos" meaning "stone." It is sometimes mistaken for peridot or green tourmaline and often referred to as GREEN AMETHYST. It is found, in increasingly smaller quantities, in Brazil and the U.S. (Arizona).
