Andalusite is a strongly pleochroic gem, which means that is you will see different colors when you view the gemstone from different directions.  Andalusite is trichroic which means it will show three colors when you look at the gem in different directions. Andalusite shows shades of brown, green and reddish brown depending on the orientation of the gemstone.

Andalusite has also been called "poor mans Alexandrite." Unlike Alexandrite, the Andalusite shows its different color display in any lighting situation.
